Hannah mixing colors in our studio

Hannah is our cheerful and lively Studio manager. If you’ve called or emailed our studio to enquire about a fabric or placing orders, you’ve likely already interacted with her. Read on to learn more about Hannah.

1. How did you find your way to working with Seema?

While I was completing my Studio Art major at SFSU, my weaving professor- Vic DeLaRosa, told me of an internship opportunity. I met with the seemakrish team and started as a design intern. A year later there was an opening for the role of Studio Manager and I was happy to fill it!

2. How many states have you lived in?

I am originally from Boston and I’ve lived in 5 states- Massachusetts, New York, Utah and Arizona—slowly making my way West and have finally ended up in San Francisco.

3. What is your “rule of thumb” in life?

Hope for the best, expect the worst. Then you are never caught off guard.

4. What is your favorite restaurant in San Francisco?

With all of San Francisco’s food choices, it is very hard to pick one. My current faves are Mandarin Islamic, Namu Gaji and Nopalito.

5. What is your art practice outside of work?

I’m always sewing or making something, usually it’s more practical like a jacket or a sweater.

Weaving has been my primary medium, but it is difficult since I only have a small stand up loom in my apartment. As a result I’ve continued working on new ways to weave sculpturally, without a loom. Then there is my Quilting. I’m currently working on quilts for all of the new babies in my life- that my friends and relatives are having. Honestly I can’t keep them straight!

6. Who are your favorite artists?

I love Yayoi Kusama, Ruth Asawa and Helen Frankenthaler. Richard Diebenkorn’s colors are amazing. Nick Cave is truly amazing. Kahinde Wiley and his patterns makes me wish I were a better painter.

7. What kind of music do you listen to?

All of it. My favorites are Talking Heads and LCD Soundsystem. I’ve been listening to Grizzly Bear a lot lately.

8. What is something about you that people are surprised to learn?

My age!

9. If you could go anywhere right now, where would it be?

Portugal, Morocco, really anywhere hot. Living in San Francisco has made me long for warm weather.

10. What is your favorite seemakrish fabric or wallcovering?

Soho –  Hudson Indigo. Such care goes into making this shibori fabric! And all of the wallpaper. If I had my own house I would have all of them!
